This would be in addition to the $28 Million the township of Lakewood just received to fund a school transportation system that is responsible for busing 36,000 students, of which 30,000 attend private schools.
While nearby school districts including Jackson, Howell, Brick and Toms River have seen school aid cut by millions, Gopal’s bill would increase funding to private schools in Lakewood.
Among the bill’s strongest supporters, Agudath Israel’s Director Avi Schnall says the bill doubles the amount of school security aid per student in Lakewood. Prior to the introduction of the bill, Senator Gopal attended Agudath’s annual Legislative Breakfast this year.
“The Agudah would like to thank the primary sponsors of this bill,” Schnall said, including Senator Gopal.
Earlier this month, it was widely reported that Gopal made a hefty $10,000 dollar contribution to local democrats and Democratic Freeholder Candidate Teddy Price went on the record and said that all that money would be heading to Tracie Yostpille’s campaign for Jackson Mayor.
